Season One: Summer 2025
Listen to the episode

Hannah and Dr Emily McGhee discuss the inequality of distribution of access arrangements and the problems that exist within the current examination system. They consider how screening everyone, using UK normed tests, could improve equity and why relying on teacher identification alone can be problematic.

About Emily...
Emily McGhee has been a full-time SENCO for over 24 years. She began her career in teaching as a primary SENCO and has been a senior SENCO for the last 14 years; she has worked in both specialist and mainstream environments. Emily has been a Level 5 tutor training specialist teachers and is an ISI inspector. She completed her EdD in 2020 on Access Arrangements at UCL; this highlighted many inconsistencies found in the current Access Arrangements system in the UK.
Emily is dyslexic and has spent her teaching career advocating for pupils with specific learning difficulties.
